Inspect the Tire Pressure: Low tire pressure will make it difficult for your vehicle to move and withstand heavy impacts. It also makes it more susceptible to damages. Because of this, make sure that each tire is in the pressure range as recommended by the manufacture. This can be done with a tire pressure guage or if your car has onboard tire monitoring, use the onboard system.
Oil Level Good?: It’s vital that your engine has enough oil. This complex liquid is what lubricates essential engine components. To check it, put a dipstick into the oil tube. The oil should be between the two lines engraved on the stick. If not, you need to add more.
Ensure There’s Enough Windshield Cleaner: As you travel, dust, dirt, bugs and other debris that will make your windshield dirty and difficult to see out of. On long road trips you’ll be using more fluid so make sure it is topped off! To check the fluid amount, open up your hood and look for a white container. Peer into it to see where the liquid measures up to. If you notice it half full or almost empty, make sure to add some more.
Check Your Spare Tire: You’ll want to inspect the spare tire to ensure it’s ready to use if necessary. You’ll need to confirm it’s tight in place and that it’s still in good condition.
Make Sure the Headlights Work: To certify the headlights work, turn them on and do a complete walk around the car checking all lights. As you do so, listen for any strange sounds, if any lights are our or weak. Be sure to check brake lights and turn signals. If you notice these issues you’ll want to get them fixed as soon as possible.
Test the Battery: The last thing you’ll need to do is examine the battery. If you notice any white corrosion, you can get a terminal cleaner at a local auto parts store. While at the store, you can ask them to test your battery if you find that engine is slow to start – especially on cold mornings.
