Spring in the air brings the itch to seek adventure on the open road. Before you give into that itch, your RV will require some attention to be sure you are rolling down the road and not sitting alongside it. With the first signs of warming temperatures, begin to prepare your RV, and you will be ready for summer travel. Need some help getting started? Read on.
- Invest time checking over your RV. Winter can bring unexpected repairs due to freezing temperatures and nesting critters. Assess what needs to be fixed. Be careful to check all aspects of the tires, water system and appliances. Consult a comprehensive list for details to include in your inspection.
- Make repairs within your skill and comfort level. Realistically assess your expertise in the area of RV repair. If repairs are unwisely stretching you, contact a professional to complete the fix for you. - Perform routine maintenance. As with car maintenance, consider tires, brakes, fluids, filters and batteries. The back roads are harder to navigate with low tire pressure and lacking windshield washer fluid. Address them in the spring for a smooth ride.
- Spring clean the interior and exterior of the RV. Cleanliness of your RV will lengthen its lifespan and provide years of comfortable travel. Remember to check areas that critters could have nested over colder months. Be sure to wash the exterior roof as this is commonly bypassed, yet important.
- Stock your RV with needed travel items. Consider kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, navigation, medical and first aid, entertainment, and personal items to store in your RV throughout the travel season. Keeping your RV stocked means less preparation time in packing for each trip. Use helpful lists to ensure you have not forgotten anything.
- Check to be sure your insurance, plates, registration and other legalities are up-to-date. Keep necessary documentation in your RV. While modern technology allows for paperless navigation, maps are an excellent addition to your glove compartment for those areas where wireless signals are spotty or non-existent.
Finally, get out the maps or get on the internet and plan your summer adventure. The roads are your only limit. Load your traveling companions whether they be family, friend or furry ally into the RV and venture on. Ready! Set! RV!
