For over 20 years, Spies Hecker has been providing their quality waterborne basecoat system to auto body shops like Downtown. The product remains revolutionary today.
What Makes Spies Hecker Paint So Great
Spies Hecker uses resin technology in the product, and that allows the paint to dry and harden in mere minutes. It eliminates the need to flash between coats, and we can immediately tape and begin the next step. Because it dries so fast, that means we use less paint. In fact, Spies Hecker advertises that shops like Downtown can save up to 31 percent in material consumption, and that savings is passed along to our customers.
Amazingly, this basecoat can be applied using only 1.5 spray passes and it can be coated as wet-on-wet. The basecoat has two application steps. The mixing tint is first, followed by the waterborne component. Their paint chemistry formulation allows water and pigment to work together in tandem. This allows our refinish technicians to have greater control, even when conditions like temperature and humidity may vary. Also the basecoat goes on in such a way to preserve the technician’s ability to still adjust the color.
Spies Hecker Innovates
Over the years, Spies Hecker listened to customer feedback and engineered their basecoat, paint coat and clear coat products to work together. They’ve developed literally thousands of new colors—over 53,000 to be exact. They also offer color tools to achieve color accuracy when mixing tints. And they’ve achieved the best gloss levels with their line of clearcoat products.
This product line of waterborne basecoats definitely holds an established place in the market. The product is dependable and relied on by leading car manufacturers, and refinishers in 76 countries use these products every day.
Spies Hecker Is Eco-friendly
Spies Hecker has always been a pioneer in environmentally-friendly products and technology, and the waterborne basecoat product is no exception. It’s friendly to the environment—it meets the volatile organic compound (VOC) compliance specs.
The product is a must in the auto painting industry. Our technicians are Spies Hecker L2 Hi-TEC certified and use this basecoat every day in our auto body applications. The basecoat is part of Spies Hecker’s Classic System of products.
