What you drive every day says a lot about what kind of person you are. From a beat-up clunker to a decked out sports car, you know what your car is saying about you, and hopefully you like what it says. But it may say more than you realize, like what part of the country you currently live. A recent study shown on a map of the US tells what brand of vehicle is most popular in each state.
Several regions of the country are dominated by a specific type of vehicle. The mid-west is overwhelmingly in favor of Ford F-series trucks. The great lakes region is overrun with the Chevy Silverado. The south-east, Georgia, Alabama, and North and South Carolina chose the Toyota Camry though Florida prefers the Toyota Corolla. Ram trucks comprise the majority in several western states and Alaska. The north-east varies from state to state with no clear pattern for the region emerging.
In California, the most popular vehicle is the Honda Accord, which is also true of Virginia and New Jersey. The Subaru Outback has also carved out a spot for itself; it’s most popular vehicle in Washington, Colorado, and Maine. Those five brands represent the top five sellers, so no real surprises are found there. Honda has another vehicle on the list; the CR-V is the most popular in the states of New York and Rhode Island. GMC only has one state under its flag; the GMC Sierra is in the lead in the state of Vermont. Glancing at the map it may easy to write Ford off as the clear winner, it is the pick for the majority of states. Still it’s interesting to look a little closer and be surprised by certain popular models. Either way, it’s somewhat comforting to see domestic-made vehicles in the top spots across most of the country.
